Two sales after three weeks!

Frank from Calgary ProSEO helped us build a plan to get our furnace repair business on the front page of Google. He told us that it would take between one to three months to start getting a good ranking and get calls from prospective customers. Well, I’m pleased to say that we’ve had two sales already in the third week after Frank started to work with us! I’m shocked at how fast he has gotten a brand new site that he built for us on the front page of Google and getting our phone ringing.

Just about every time I meet with a prospective client, the question comes up about what make The ProSEO group any different from the dozens of unsolicited emails they receive from other search engine optimization companies?

It is unfortunate, but spammers or in the wild west days, snake oil salesmen, are always quick to jump onto a bandwagon where there is real opportunity. The spammers have recognized the fact that businesses need to have help getting their web sites ranked well in the search engines, if they wish to compete in the marketplace. Much like the old west days where legitimate medicines were being developed and other ‘snake oil salesmen’ entered the market to sell junk that just doesn’t work. Does it make the legitimate medicines junk too? No absolutely not, but it does put a tarnish on the industry as a whole.

Before you decide upon any company who performs search engine optimization, be sure to find out some critical points. In our opinion, these make up the framework for our ProSEO Comprehensive Keyword Report.

Discovering Your Best Customer

First and foremost, what we are doing isn’t just search engine optimization but it is online advertising. The number one thing we need to know is ‘who is your best customer?’ Until we can answer that question, everything else we do is a complete waste of time.

We at Calgary ProSEO take the time to get to know your business and where you want to focus your business into the future. This allows us to see what your best customer should look like.

What is Your Best Customer Looking For?

Once we have a good idea of who your best customer is, we need to discover what they are typing into the search engines to find a solution to their problem.

There will be keyword phrases that they will type that will not only point to you as a solution provider but tell you that they are ready to commit to purchasing from you.

From what they type into the search engines, much of it may just be research and not real purchase commitment. We will help you to discover what your best customer is typing into the search engines that could translate into profitable leads for your business.

Putting You In Front of Your Best Customer

This is where the work of search engine optimization begins. Performing white hat techniques, we get your web site to page one of Google where your customer is looking for you when they need you.

We use tools that are industry standard as well as in house exclusively built to give you the best services available in the industry.

At the end of the day, you need to have your business on the front page of the search engines. Most of the bigger businesses already know this and invest tremendous amount of resources to accomplish this tasks.

Many medium to smaller businesses have really only begun to understand this fact. It will be the early adopters who will be the industry leaders into the next decade.

So stop listening to the buzz of snake oil salesmen and get on board with a company who is not just a search engine optimization company but an online marketing company. Give us a call and talk to one of our representatives.

Recently, I picked up the book by the author Dave Kerpen called “likeable social media – … Readmore »

Recently, I picked up the book by the author Dave Kerpen called “likeable social media – How to delight your customers, create an irresistible brand, and be generally amazying on Facebook (and other social networks)”

First off, this isn’t your standard social media book. This book shows you examples of how to think completely out of the box and view several social platforms as excellent locations to talk to potential customers – in a way that is pleasing to the customer!

It’s definitely not an in your face marketing book. The author prescribes excellent techniques to get in touch with your potential clients on the various social networks. I personally have used these networks, such as linkedin, facebook and twitter for some time, but I was totally blown away by how Dave recommends you use them.

It made complete sense on how we should be marketing to our potential customers. You see, the premise of the book is not to ‘advertise’ to your customer demographic, but to use these platforms to ‘communicate and listen’ to them.

This is very different. More and more traditional advertising is being turned on its ear and no longer works. Think I’m wrong? Ask your friends and family how many of them own a PVR with their favorite cable provider and ask if they tape and skip over commercials or do they love to watch the commercials?

People in today’s culture have a boat load of information that they have access too. And they will make purchasing decisions based upon social acceptance of a product or down right researching the product to see if it fits their personal needs.

In the beginnings of a product, it will come down to research. By using the social networks as prescribed by Mr Kerpen, you will be ahead of the pack. With good communications with your potential client base, you will be able to target their needs and build your product to satisfy those needs. And you have a marriage made in heaven.

I’ve only read the first quarter of this book, but in my opinion, what I’ve read already makes it a winner. Even if the last 3/4′s of this book is fluff and nonsense, I’d still be thrilled with the tools and ideas presented already.

I hope that you too pick up this book and build your business’ social presence! Good luck.

On page seo or search engine optimization is one of the only factors that you have … Readmore »

On page seo or search engine optimization is one of the only factors that you have complete control over to improve your web sites location in the search engine rankings.

In my opinion, on page seo has two distinct parts associated with it.

On Page SEO – The Overall Site Schema

First, your web site should have two files that give the search engines a very fast view of the overall structure and pages that are actually make up your web site. These two files are the sitemap.xml and robots.txt. Between these two files, a spider can come to your site and rapidly index it based upon the pages that it finds in your sitemap file.

The robots.txt has some instructions to search engine spiders but overall it points to the sitemap file so again, the spider can find it quickly.

For this first step, let me tell you how much of a difference that can make. Recently, I had setup a new web site for a client and had completely forgot to setup these two critical files. I had performed all the off page seo to get the site indexed in the search engines.

Normally, I find that I can get a new site indexed in the engines within about one hour. For this site and my slip up, after three days, I was scratching my head on why the site wasn’t still indexed.

At that moment, I went through my checklist and discovered my mistake. Once these files are in place, the site was indexed within about 15 minutes!

Next, and this is part of the first part, is the actual web links. When building pages for a site, the actual url should contain your primary keyword for that page. So for example, if you look at the url for this page, you’ll find it to be http://www.calgaryproseo.ca/on-page-seo/. Now, the search engine spiders have a pretty big clue that the site is about on-page-seo!

On Page SEO – Page Qualities to Consider

For the second part of on page seo, it’s vitally important to continue building a page on the theme of targetting to a specific keyword. Once again, for this page, I’m focusing on the keyword, on page seo.

So, what I’ll do is simple things like ensuring one occurance of the term ‘on page seo’ is bolded, another is italicized and finally another is underlined. Again, this brings more importance to this term.

Also, I’ll make sure that I’ve used the term about every 100 words on the page. By doing this, the term on page seo will become the predominant term on the page.

Finally, putting in a few title tags with the keyword, on page seo will help as well. There are other things to further target the on page seo but this gives you some idea of what’s involved.

This is a great question, what is Google Local. Google Local is a set of thousands of free web sites that Google is giving away to local businesses. The whole idea is to give a local services the ability to create an electronic ‘yellow pages’ for web searchers.

Google is an intelligent enough search engine that they can differentiate, most of the time, between global searches and local searches. When they perceive that the search is locally oriented in nature, they will give their Google Local web sites preferred ranking to general web sites.

For example, take one moment and search for the term, ‘mortgage broker manhattan’, within a standard Google search.

Click to see a larger version

What you’ll notice from this example is that the page is showing two items that are unique for Google Local.

First is the actual Google Local listings. They will point to the company web site and the Google Local pages.

Next is a map of the local area that is showing where the Google Local businesses are located from A to G.

So, as a local business, it’s important for you to ensure that your business has a Google Local page and have it ranked.

The first thing you want to do is see if you actually have a Google Local page. You can go to Google maps and do a search for your business name and your local city or town name.

Next, if you have a Google local listing, make sure you claim that listing. Finally, take the time to ensure your information is correct!

If you need help, be sure to contact us for more information.

Business changes on a constant basis as technology that drives business changes. For example, lets take a look at something that happened not too long back. In 1888, Richard Sears of Sears, Roebuck and Company published their first locally delivered catalog to rural farmers in the United States.

What the common practice was before the catalog, farmers would work their farms and bring their crops into town to sell. Farmers would then typically purchase supplies for the up and coming year from the local grocer.

In other words, the local grocer, completely monopolized the customer base in the area. This local grocer would dictate, price, availability and selection of goods that a local farmer could purchase.

One limitation for each local grocer is the fact that selection is limited simply because of the cost of holding the stock that would be sold by the grocer. This also ensured that no stock would not be sold.

Pretty good market for the local grocer, you would say. And you would be completely correct. Normally the local town merchant was one of the wealthiest citizens in town.

When the Sears, Roebuck catalog was distributed to farmers, it completely changed the sales landscape for local retailers.

Technology permitted the consumer of the late 19th century variety of sources to purchase their goods from. Not only did this influence price, but significantly offered a better selection to local farmers.

But what is the lesson to be learnt from this century old example? Technology will continuously alter the landscape for business. If local retailers ignored the catalogs that were distributed by Sears and Roebuck, they would soon find themselves in a lot of hot water.

As a business owner of the 21st century, little has changed. Technology marches on and businesses can either ignore or embrace new technology. The Internet in today’s day and age is now a predominant driving force for business. You can either choose to embrace and utilize the Internet or ignore it.

Unfortunately, many business owners have been ignoring the Internet and what it can mean to their business. Did you know that 97% of all consumers now use online media to shop locally? Source: BIA Kelsey.

What does this mean to you? If you are selling a product or service and you are not being found by your customers online, you could literally be giving your competition 97% of your business!

Learn how the pro’s at Pro SEO can help you get your business on the first page of Google today.
